Situational Awareness 101: Living in Condition Yellow
In a city that moves as fast as Dallas, the people who stay safest aren’t the ones with the best gear — they’re the ones who see trouble coming. That’s the color code:
- White — Unaware: head down, phone up, oblivious. Fine at home; risky on a busy street.
- Yellow — Aware: relaxed but switched on, noticing the movement around you. Make this your default.
- Orange — Alert: something specific catches your eye. You focus on it and plan exits and options.
- Red — Alarm: a real threat is present; you act on a decision already made.
It’s not about paranoia — it’s about shifting levels as your surroundings change. In a dense city, that habit gives you time and distance when it counts most.
