Bigger Gun or More Rounds? The Carry Pistol Trade-Off
Every carrier hits the same fork: a bigger pistol that holds more and shoots easier, or a smaller one that hides better. Here’s the trade-off:
- Bigger (full-size/compact): more rounds, softer recoil, longer sight radius, fuller grip — easier to shoot well. But heavier, harder to conceal, more likely to print.
- Smaller (subcompact/micro): lighter and easier to hide, so you’ll actually carry it. But fewer rounds, snappier recoil, and a small grip that’s harder to control under stress.
- The middle: modern micro-compacts pack real capacity into concealable frames, and compacts often hit the sweet spot.
The best carry gun is the one you’ll carry consistently and shoot well. A high-capacity pistol left in the safe protects no one; a micro you can’t control isn’t doing its job either.
