Benefits of a Texas LTC
-
Reciprocity: This is a big one. An LTC allows you to carry in many more states. Texas has reciprocity agreements with a significant number of other states, meaning your LTC is recognized as a carry permit in those places.
-
Carry in more places: The Texas LTC allows you to carry in a lot more places such as school parking lots, where permitless carriers face more restrictions.
-
Potential legal advantages: An LTC might offer some additional legal protection in self-defense situations. While the laws are complex, having an LTC demonstrates you’ve received training on firearms safety and Texas law.
-
Faster firearm purchases: LTC holders are exempt from background checks when buying guns from a dealer.
-
Demonstrates responsible gun ownership: An LTC shows you’ve gone through the process of education and background checks. This can be a positive if you’re ever questioned by law enforcement.

FAQ
Can I take the class if I am under 21?
In most cases, you must be at least 21 to get a Texas LTC. There is a narrow exception: under Texas law (HB 918), adults 18–20 may qualify only if they are protected under an active protective order or magistrate’s emergency protective order, and their license carries a “protective order designation.” If that applies to you, contact us and we’ll help you confirm your eligibility.
Do I have to be a Texas resident to get a LTC?
No. Texas issues to residents of all 50 states. All you need is a drivers license or ID issued by ANY state.
Is the online LTC class legal in Texas?
Yes. This is the official Texas DPS online LTC class required to get your LTC.
Do I need a LTC to carry in Texas?
Well, Texas has a restricted form of permitless carry but you can carry in more places with more protections with a LTC.
Will the online LTC class work on my phone?
Yes. The course works on all devices including your smartphone.
Is the online class self paced?
Yes. The online class is self paced and available 24/7.
Do I have to take the online courses before a live-fire range course?
No. The online membership tiers are completely optional. You can sign up for any live-fire range course on its own. The online tiers exist to build your knowledge at your own pace and to earn you a discount on the matching range course.
How do the online tiers give me a discount?
Each online tier matches a live-fire range course. Pass the matching tier and we take money off that specific course: $15 off CCW 1, $25 off CCW 2, $35 off CCW 3, and $50 off CCW 4. The discount only applies to the matching course.
Do I have to take the live-fire range courses in order?
Yes. The four live-fire range courses are strictly sequential. Every new shooter starts at CCW 1, and each course unlocks the next only after you have completed the one before it. This keeps training safe and builds skills in the right order.
Can I take the online courses in any order?
Yes. Inside each online tier you can take the lessons in any order you like. There is no required sequence online — you just need to complete and pass the tier to earn your range-course discount.
What is the difference between the online tiers and the live-fire range courses?
The online tiers are self-paced knowledge courses you take from anywhere. The live-fire range courses are hands-on, in-person training where you prove and build those skills on the range. The online side is optional; the range courses are the core training path.
Is a membership required to attend a live-fire range course?
No. A membership is not required to enroll in a range course. Membership simply lets you study online and earn a discount on the matching course. You can always book a range course directly.
Is Full Access a one-time purchase?
Yes. Full Access is a one-time payment of $9.99 for lifetime access — there are no monthly fees and no recurring charges. Pay once and keep access to all online courses, forever.
Does passing a tier discount apply to more than one course?
No. Each tier’s discount applies only to its matching live-fire course. Passing Tier 2, for example, discounts CCW 2 — not CCW 1, 3, or 4.
What is the best way to combine the online courses and the range courses?
A common path is to complete the matching online tier first to build knowledge and earn the discount, then take that live-fire range course to prove it in person. Since range courses are sequential, you work up from CCW 1 to CCW 4 while using the tiers to save along the way.
